LACEY, Wash. - On a rainy afternoon in the Pacific Northwest, Northwest Nazarene men's soccer fought to a 1-1 draw at Saint Martin's on Thursday.
Skyler Munroe scored the goal for NNU (2-1-1) in the second half, 14 minutes after SMUÂ (0-0-1) opened the scoring in the 48th minute.
Like the score, shots were even at 15 apiece for the Nighthawks and Saints, with SMU holding a slight 5-4 advantage on goal.Â
NNU held the upper hand for much of the first half, firing six shots to SMU's three, but could not convert any chances into a goal. Just after the break, the Saints found the back of the net on their first attempt of the second period to go up 1-0 in the 48th minute.
It would not be long, however, before the Nighthawks found the equalizer, as in the 62nd minute Munroe was able to even the score with his first goal of the year. That would be all the two teams would get in regulation, heading to overtime tied at one goal apiece.
The Saints had two attempts in the first extra period, but both were sent off frame. The Nighthawks had the best chance of the second overtime period, with
Dominic Abdel-Ahad putting a dangerous ball in front of the net, but the Saints were able to clear it away. NNU got another opportunity in the final seconds of the game, earning a corner with just 10 seconds to go, but SMU's defense held on for the draw.
The Nighthawks and Saints will look to declare a winner on Saturday when the two teams face off again in Lacey, with game time set for noon Pacific.
