NNU's Upset Bid Comes Up Short at ISU

POCATELLO, Idaho - Northwest Nazarene women's volleyball put up another great fight at Division I Idaho State on Saturday, but came up short in five sets, 3-2.

After falling 3-1 on Friday, the Nighthawks came out strong with a 25-21 victory in set one. The Bengals responded with back-to-back wins to go up 2-1, but NNU bounced right back by taking the fourth set 25-23.

The Nighthawks and Bengals battled to an 8-8 tie midway through the final frame, but ISU scored six of the final seven points to take the set and the match.

Abbey Blum led NNU with 17 kills and a .324 attack percentage while also picking up six blocks. Taylor Markland (12) and Natalie Sullivan (10) also recorded double-digit kills, with Markland also hitting .556 and tallying four blocks.

Mckenzie Lee registered 38 assists and 15 digs for NNU, while Caroline McMahon led the Nighthawks' defense with 25 digs.

After five matches on the road to start the season, NNU's home opener is next up as they are set to host Colorado Christian for two contests on Feb. 26.
