LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene women's soccer recorded yet another stellar defensive effort on Saturday, earning their fourth-straight shutout win as they defeated Saint Martin's 1-0.
How It Happened
- SMU had the advantage in opportunities in the opening half, taking 11 shots to NNU's four, but neither team found an early goal.
- It took all the way to the 82nd minute before that one goal would be scored, as Madison Grande took the ball down the right side on a counter and juked one defender before launching a curling shot from outside the box that evaded the SMU keeper for the score.
- That would be all NNU needed, as the Saints were kept off the board, with the duo of Alexis Montoya and Ariel Kotte saving all eight SMU shots on target.
Nighthawks Notes
- NNU has now won five of their last six in addition to the four-straight shutouts, improving to 8-3-2 on the year and 6-3-1 in conference play.
- With the win, NNU inches closer to a GNAC postseason berth, currently third in the standings with four games to play.
- Grande's goal was her fifth of the season, leading the team and tying for second in the conference.
- Despite the negative halftime margin, NNU ended up outshooting SMU 19-18 thanks to a 15-7 mark in the second period. NNU also had the advantage in shots on target at 10-8.
