SEASIDE, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday in its season opener.
The Nighthawks offense recorded eight shots, including five on goal and had more corner kicks (7-4) than the Otters but couldn't find a way to get the ball into the back of the net.
"We had the majority of the play, but soccer is a game of momentum and when we had it we didn't finish," NNU coach
Mary Trigg said. "They had momentum for about 10 minutes and they finished. We need to get a little more dangerous in the box and reward ourselves."
Alexis Montoya made two saves in her first collegiate start, allowing the one goal in the 62nd minute.
NNU (0-1) is back in action at 1 p.m. MDT on Saturday against Holy Names at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Brooke Felzien led the NNU attack, recording two shots on goal.
