POINT LOMA, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team gave up two late goals in a 3-2 nonconference loss Thursday against Cal Poly Pomona at Point Loma Nazarene.
Rikki Myers scored her sixth goal of the season in the 52nd minute to tie the game at 1-1, where it remained until the final six minutes.
"We didn't give ourselves a full 90 minutes to play. The first half wasn't us," NNU coach
Mary Trigg said. "We actually played well in the second half, we just had a couple different things go wrong defensively in the final six minutes."
Pomona scored twice in the span of two minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Defender
Jade Zimmer kicked the ball off a defender for an own goal on Pomona in the 87th minute, but the Nighthawks (3-3 overall) couldn't find the equalizer.
"The biggest thing is that we can't only play 45 minutes," Trigg said, "but we have more fight than we ever have had. We have no give up. We started slow, but we changed it."
Alexis Montoya made five saves in goal as the Nighthawks were out-shot 18-7, including 8-3 on goal.
The Nighthawks play at Point Loma at 2:30 p.m. MDT on Saturday.
