NNU women's soccer team's playoff hopes dashed

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team lost 3-0 on Thursday at Central Washington in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action..

The loss eliminates the Nighthawks (6-9-2 overall, 3-6-2 GNAC) from playoff contention, while the win seals a playoff spot for the Wildcats. The Nighthawks will wrap up their season at 5:30 p.m. MST on Saturday at Seattle Pacific.

"Central punished our mistakes and we couldn't punish their mistakes," NNU coach Mary Trigg said. "We had 18 shots and they had 19, so it was even in shots but it's a game of who finishes their chances."

Sierra Sanchez had two shots on goal, while Tennyson Young, Christa Lewis, Rikki Myers and Brooke Felzien each had one.

Saturday's game will be the last for the team's five seniors – Felzien, Young, Corinnah Schaefer, Christa Lewis and Maddy Parton. While the team will hope to send them out with a victory, the Nighthawks will also be looking to the future with a lot of starters back.

"We have lots of promise for the future with all our young players," Trigg said, "but we need to reward ourselves now."

Alexis Montoya made 11 saves in goal.
