BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team lost 2-0 on Thursday at Western Washington in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
The No. 19 Vikings (11-3-1 overall, 8-0-1 GNAC) dominated the first half, scoring twice and out-shooting the Nighthawks 12-0 in those 45 minutes.
"We came out a little stunned and we weren't up to speed," NNU coach
Adam Pearce said. "They had their ears pinned back and came flying at us and we didn't adjust to it or come out ready at GNAC level speed. It was a disappointing start."
In the second half, each team had six shots but neither could find the back of the net.
"Similar to the rest of our season, some errors from immaturity and lack of experience cost us," Pearce said. "When you play quality teams they penalize you for making some of those errors. Simple giveaways, misclearances, knocking balls instead of clearing them out or over-managing the ball. They punished us."
Freshman
Sawyer Price made nine saves in goal, while
Brandon Parsio had both NNU shots on goal.
"Sawyer recollected himself and came up with one save after another to keep us in the game," Pearce said. "In the second half, we pushed and tried to make a go for it."
NNU (6-9-0, 2-7-0) plays at Simon Fraser at 8 p.m. MST on Saturday.
