BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team lost 4-0 on Saturday to No. 7 Western Washington in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.
Despite the loss, the Nighthawks can still earn a spot in the GNAC tournament if they win their final two games and get some help elsewhere. NNU plays at Central Washington at 4 p.m. MST on Thursday and at Seattle Pacific at 5:30 p.m. MST on Saturday.
The Nighthawks (6-8-2 overall, 3-5-2 GNAC) will need Central Washington to lose twice next week and Montana State Billings once to set up a chance at making the tournament.
On Saturday,
Alexis Montoya made 12 saves despite playing with the flu.
"It was a game of little moments. We had our opportunities and didn't put them away," NNU coach
Mary Trigg said. "They're a great team and we learned a lot from today and we're focused on Thursday's big game."
Western's Dayana Diaz scored in the 23rd minute, Alice Hiebert in the 41st, and Darby Doyle in the 69th and 79th. The victory clinches the GNAC regular-season title for the Vikings (15-2, 11-0).
