PORTLAND, Ore. – Northwest Nazarene senior
Lexi Ward had one of the best matches of her career Saturday as the Nighthawks earned a five-set victory at Concordia.
NNU won 15-25, 25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10.
Ward had 10 kills and one error, hitting .409. She added four blocks as well.
"In the second set, she got us a huge lead and helped increase it with her blocking," NNU coach
Doug English said. "It was a fun team effort tonight and we are excited we won in five."
Brooke Foster also had a monster match, recording 22 kills and a .310 hitting percentage as well as digging out 18 balls.
Natalie Sullivan finished with 11 kills and two blocks,
Abbey Blum had 10 kills and 15 digs and
Kayla Sale had 28 digs.
Megan Nelson finished with 56 assists and eight digs.
"We rode Brooke and set her a lot of balls and got her a lot of swings," English said. "
Kayla Sale had a great defensive match. She was all over the place for us and gave us defensive energy. And
Natalie Sullivan came up huge in the fifth set."
Sullivan had three kills down the stretch of the fifth set to help seal the victory.
NNU (13-12 overall, 9-9 GNAC) swept its road trip and heads into the final weekend riding high. The Nighthawks host Simon Fraser at 7 p.m. Thursday and Western Washington at 7 p.m. Saturday.
