NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene volleyball team was swept by Simon Fraser on Thursday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
The Clan (17-10 overall, 13-6 GNAC) won the match 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 to sweep the season series and end a three-match winning streak for the Nighthawks.
"Simon is one of the best defensive teams in the conference – they lead in digs – so we knew it was going to be really hard to get kills," NNU coach
Doug English said. "There was a ton of long rallies and they did a really good job of not making errors and keeping balls in play and putting a lot of pressure on us as well as being patient and scoring when they could."
Brooke Foster finished with 11 kills and 17 digs,
Natalie Sullivan had 10 kills and just two errors,
Lexi Ward had five kills and
Megan Nelson had 31 assists.
Kayla Sale finished with 16 digs and
Caroline McMahon had 10 digs and two aces.
"Despite Simon's defense, I thought Brooke, Natalie and Lexi all had above-average games which is hard to do against a really good defensive team," English said. "They took some good rips and swings and really challenged Simon and helped us get as close as we can."
The Nighthawks (13-13, 9-9) close out their season at 7 p.m. Saturday against No. 6 Western Washington. Before the match, the team's five seniors –
Kayla Sale,
Megan Nelson,
Lexi Ward,
Jess Brennis and
Taylor Jones -- will be honored in a special ceremony.
