MINOT, N.D. – The Northwest Nazarene women's soccer team has played five games in 10 days.
Despite the heavy game load, the Nighthawks are still unbeaten after a 1-1 draw against Minot State on Saturday night.
It is the first time since at least 2000 that NNU is unbeaten in the first five matches.
"I'm so proud of our girls," NNU coach
Mary Trigg said. "To be on our fifth game in 10 days against a team that had a week rest and to pull off a result on the road is huge. We showed tons of grit."
Brooke Felzien scored the lone goal for NNU (4-0-1) in the 14th minute off an assist by
Tennyson Young.
That was all the Nighthawks would get through 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime. Minot State tied the match in the 30th minute on a free kick, but the NNU defense and goalie
Chloe Sholtz made sure the Beavers would get no more.
Sholtz made four saves in goal, as the teams both had five shots on goal and 10 shots overall.
NNU opens conference play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against Saint Martin's at NNU Field.
