BILLINGS, Mont. – The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team won its third consecutive Great Northwest Athletic Conference match Saturday, defeating Montana State Billings 4-2.
Dominic Abdel-Ahad,
Jake Levine,
Alex Mitrovic and
Rafael Junqueira all scored for the Nighthawks (3-5-1 overall, 3-0-0 GNAC).
"This was a great weekend for us on the road," NNU coach
Joel DeLass said. "It's very hard to get results when you're traveling and the guys did a great job of grinding out a second win this weekend."
Abdel-Ahad scored his first goal of the season off an assist by
Skyler Munroe in the 21st minute. Levine doubled the lead in the 25th on an assist from
Logan Wood and Mitrovic tripled it in the 36th on an unassisted goal.
After the Yellowjackets (4-6-1, 1-3-0) scored on penalty kicks in the 44th and 82nd minutes, Junqueira iced the game with his team-leading sixth goal of the season off assists by Wood and Levine.
"We really executed our game plan in the first half, but credit to Billings for not giving up and making it a very tense game," DeLass said. "It's been great watching this group mature and not give up on each other after not winning in our first six matches."
Jacob Hillyer made two saves in goal for NNU, which hosts No. 1 in Division II Simon Fraser at 4 p.m. Thursday at NNU Field.
