LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team suffered a tough loss Thursday night, falling 3-2 at Biola in a nonconference matchup.
The Nighthawks (0-4-1) gave up the game-winner in the 89th minute on a give-and-go between Kousei Mattox and Leo Thompson from the top of the 18-yard box.
"It's a tough spell for us right now, but the guys are battling," NNU coach
Joel DeLass said. "We had spells where we had control of the game, but we need to take our chances better.
"It was a good game to watch with end-to-end action. Tough not to come out on top, but props to Biola tonight for finding a way to get the win."
NNU had rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, scoring on an own goal in the 26th minute and then on a penalty kick by
Alex Mitrovic in the 53rd minute. The goal was Mitrovic's second on the season.
The Nighthawks had five shots on goal, but couldn't quite breakthrough for the road victory.
Colin Andersen had five saves.
The Nighthawks play at Point Loma at 12:30 p.m. MDT on Saturday.
