LACEY, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene volleyball team lost in four sets to Saint Martin's on Thursday in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.
The Nighthawks (5-17 overall, 5-10 GNAC) won the opener and had a great chance at the second set, but couldn't put it away in the 14-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-15 loss.
"Saint Martin's dug a lot of balls and worked really hard to win this match. I think we could have worked a little harder," NNU coach
Doug English said. "We had pretty average serve receive and it is hard to kill balls when you are passing 15 feet from the net."
Trailing 10-4 in the second set, NNU went on an 8-1 run to take a 12-11 lead. The Nighthawks eventually led 23-21, but gave up a 4-0 run to close the second set and Saint Martin's dominated from there.
"Saint Martin's offensively played great today," English said. "We knew we had to try and slow them down and we couldn't at all."
Cami Heninger had 14 kills and 15 digs,
Abbey Blum had 13 kills and seven digs,
Brooke Foster had six kills,
Megan Nelson had 19 assists and 10 digs,
Mckenzie Lee had 15 assists and
Shayli Siegfreid had 22 digs.
NNU plays at 2 p.m. PDT on Saturday at Seattle Pacific.
