BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team was shut out 3-0 by Western Washington on Thursday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
After a long travel day that saw a flight from Nampa delayed, canceled and then the ensuing flight delayed, the Nighthawks didn't get to Bellingham until 3:30 p.m. Thursday. They left campus at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"The guys competed well in the second half," NNU coach
Joel DeLass said. "We just didn't have any legs today."
The Nighthawks (3-11-1 overall, 3-6-0 GNAC) struggled offensively, recording just one shot on goal. Freshman
Alex Nadermann made two saves in his second career start.
Christian Rotter scored in the 20th minute, chipping Nadermann. He added his second in the 23rd minute off a blast from 12-yards out. Ryan Schaefer scored the final tally in the 33rd minute after a cross from Georg Cholewa led to a tap in.
While the score line wasn't what NNU wanted, the Nighthawks did play better than the 5-0 loss they suffered at the hands of the Vikings at home earlier this month.
The Nighthawks play at No. 1 Simon Fraser at 8 p.m. MDT on Saturday.
