NNU loses in overtime to Concordia

NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team lost 3-2 in overtime to Concordia on Saturday at NNU Field in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match.

The Cavaliers scored in the 94th minute in the first overtime as Kieran McMinn knocked a loose ball into the net to send the Nighthawks to their fifth consecutive loss.

"Overall, it was a decent response from what we did on Thursday," NNU coach Joel DeLass said. "We had chances to win it here and didn't take them. And we gave up easy goals. That is kind of the story of the season for us."

Skyler Munroe opened the scoring in the 14th minute off assists by Danny Cuevas and Jake Levine. The Cavaliers (5-8-1 overall, 3-6-0 GNAC) answered on an unassisted goal from Nicholas Denley in the 20th.

The Nighthawks (3-10-1, 3-5-0) went back on top on Jake Levine's fifth goal of the season as Grant Larson made a nice pass to spring Levine, who made a move to get past his defender and drive it home.

The Cavaliers quickly answered, though, scoring in the 35th minute on a goal from Christian Thyron.

The score remained knotted at 2 for the next 60 minutes, though both teams had plenty of chances. Each team hit the post and the cross bar in the second half, and NNU's Sam Ho just missed rolling in the game-winner with 2 seconds left in regulation.

"We just have to hope that the group can learn from those moments and bounce back next weekend and as we move forward," DeLass said.

Alex Nadermann made nine saves in goal while making his first career start. The Nighthawks finished with 12 shots on goal.

The Nighthawks hit the road next week playing at Western Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday. Both games start at 8 p.m. MDT.
