NNU men's soccer falls to MSU Billings

NAMPA, Idaho – The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team lost 4-2 on Friday to Montana State Billings in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at NNU Field.

The Nighthawks led 2-0 at half on goals by Jake Levine and Grant Larson, but a depleted defense couldn't hang on as the Yellowjackets got a second-half hat trick from Ricardo Palomino.

It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Nighthawks (3-9-1 overall, 3-4-0 GNAC), who defeated the Yellowjackets 4-2 last month in Montana.

Levine scored in the 29th minute off a headed pass from Rafael Junqueira. Levine then hammered the ball into the left corner of the net, glancing off the pole. It was Levine's fourth goal of the season.

Less than 15 minutes later, Junqueira found Larson on a breakaway. It was Larson's first career goal.

Coming out of halftime, though, the Yellowjackets (6-7-2, 3-4-1) scored in the 51st after the defense stopped playing because they thought Pascal Pisarek was offside. It wasn't called and Pisarek had his first goal.

Four minutes later, Palomino scored on a breakaway to tie the match. His second goal came off an assist by goalkeeper Ludvig Rhodin, who kicked a ball onto the forward's feet as he streaked down the right side. He wrapped up his hat trick in the 85th minute on a breakaway, as teammate Brady Tesch gave him a tapper to a wide open net.

The Nighthawks were playing without defensive starters Jose Labanino-Ramos and Danny Cuevas, both who are out with injuries.

Goalie Jacob Hillyer made eight saves and freshman Alex Nadermann earned his first minutes of the season after Hillyer left with an injury.

NNU hosts Concordia at 3 p.m. Saturday at NNU Field.
