Brian Barkdoll grabbed a career and game-high 18 rebounds and scored 22 points to lead the Northwest Nazarene men's basketball team to a 76-66 GNAC victory over Simon Fraser University in a regionally televised game on Fox Sports Northwest tonight at the Johnson Sports Center.
Barkdoll connected on nine of 12 shots and the Crusaders (7-8) outrebounded the Clan 42-20 to earn their third conference win against five losses.
In addition to Barkdoll, NNU was also led by guard Drew Eisinger with 15 points and Lateef Williams with 10. Williams scored the game's final four points after Simon Fraser (2-11, 1-6) had closed to within six points with 1:10 left on a three-pointer by Ricky Berry.
Berry and his backcourt mate Justin Brown combined with 43 points as Brown led the way with 23. Berry had 14 of his 20 points in the second half.
After falling behind 7-0 and 20-7, SFU pulled to within four points at 28-24 late in the first half.
The Clan cut its deficit to one point at 46-45 early in the second half before NNU used an 11-0 run - Barkdoll had the first seven points - to grab its biggest lead of the game at 66-50 with 6:55 left.
NNU shot 68 percent inside the three-point line making 26 of 38 to finish with a 55.2 percentage overall (32 of 58). Simon Fraser, which had just nine turnovers, made 23 of 54 (42.6 percent).
The Crusaders will host Western Washington University on Saturday night at 7 p.m., with the evening highlighted by the 2011 NNU Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at halftime.
