Matt attended Highline Community College for two seasons, helping Highline win the NWAACC Championship during his freshman season in 2005-06 and averaging 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds during his sophomore campaign.

High School
At Kentwood High School, Matt helped lead Kentwood High to the Washington 4A State Championship in 2004, his junior season, and a second-place state finish as a senior in 2005.
