Billy Newbery

Billy Newbery enters his sixth season with NNU in the 2023-24 academic year.

Newbery has a variety of duties with the Nighthawks including working with the hitters, catchers, recruiting, and serving as the third-base coach.
 
Prior to coming to NNU, Newbery coached varsity baseball at Borah High School (Boise, ID) for six years, where he served as a hitting coach, first base coach, and was heavily involved with youth baseball camps.
 
Before coaching at Borah, Newbery spent one year as head baseball coach at Emmett High School (2012), one as the varsity assistant at Steele Canyon High School in San Diego, Calif. (2010) and a partial season as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University (2006).
 
Newbery began his coaching career in San Diego, working as a camp hitting instructor for three years under Jay Johnson (University of Arizona Head Coach).
 
Growing up in San Diego, Newbery played baseball at Mission Bay High School. He earned all-league status as a catcher and third baseman.
 
Following high school, Newbery went on to play junior college baseball at San Diego Community College. As a sophomore, he was named honorable mentioned as a catcher, and played on the Southern California All-Star team.
 
After playing for San Diego City College, Newbery earned a scholarship to play at Point Loma Nazarene University. He spent time at catcher, third base, and second base, and was the leadoff hitter his final season at PLNU.
 
Newbery earned his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Masters of Arts in Teaching from Point Loma Nazarene University. He is currently teaching Health and PE in the Boise School District.
 
Newbery resides in the Boise area with his wife Kate, son Brody, and daughter Kamryn. He enjoys anything outdoors and spending time with his family.
