Joel played two seasons at Spokane Community College, averaging 8.0 points and 1.2 assists as a sophomore…He was named to the SCC Honor Roll, was a first-team all-academic NWAACC selection and was a two-time academic Athlete-of-the-Month.

High School
At Northwest Christian High School, Joel was a first-team Washington ‘A’ all-state team member in 2004, as well as being named the Northeast ‘A’ League MVP…A two-time all-Northeast ‘A’ League first-team pick as a junior and senior, Joel was a two-time league scoring champion.
