NAMPA, Idaho - The Northwest Nazarene men's soccer team defeated Jamestown (N.D.) 2-0 to close out nonconference play.
The Nighthawks have been on an absolute tear over the past couple weeks, winning four straight including ranked win on Thursday over Seattle Pacific.
Jamestown had a great chance very early as Joshua Jackson had a great look at an open net inside the six-yard box but missed wide. NNU then had a shot by
Jim Wagenaar a few minutes later that was off target.
The Nighthawks broek through in the 10th minute as Carson DIn sent a perfect lofted ball to a sprinting
Jim Wagenaar. Wagenaar won the foot race past his defender and poked the ball over the keeper to take an early 1-0 lead.
NNU continued to fire shots as
Elijah Grimaldo forced Valon Ismaili to make a save and
Alexander Aronsson missed wide in the 26th minute.
Elijah Grimaldo and Illyès El Yansli found shots in the 30th and 38th minutes before
David Campos took a shot that was saved in the 45th minute to go into the half with a 1-0 lead.
It didn't take long for the Nighthawks to add to their lead as
Alex Barragan took a pass on the far side of the 18-yard box before laying it off to a wide open
Caleb Putney. Putney took one touch to settle the ball before blasting it to the back post with his left foot to put NNU up by two.
NNU improves to 6-1-3 and remains 1-0 in conference play. They will continue their conference schedule on Thursday when they face Western Washington and Simon Faser on Saturday.
