ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Northwest Nazarene cross country heads to Illinois on Saturday for the Lewis Crossover, one of the largest NCAA Division II cross country meets in the country. The meet will give the Nighthawks a chance to compete against some of the top teams in the nation and see how they stack up against national ranked competition.
With the NCAA Division II National Championships coming up in December, the Lewis Crossover will be an important opportunity for both teams to continue preparing for the postseason.
The NNU women are coming off a third-place finish at the Mike Johnson Classic on Sept. 26, where they scored 134 points against a field that included NCAA Division I programs Oregon, Portland and Oregon State. Hazel Kunkel led the Nighthawks with a 12th-place finish in 21:24, followed by Cameron Moore in 22nd at 21:42 and Zoey Stauffer in 32nd at 22:04.
The men also finished third at the Mike Johnson Classic, scoring 92 points. The Nighthawks will look to carry that momentum into Saturday's race as they take on teams from across the country.
The Lewis Crossover will give both teams a chance to see where they stand against other Division II programs as they prepare for the GNAC Championships in November and the rest of the postseason. Stride Report will also provide coverage of the meet on YouTube for fans to follow along. The men's 8K race is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Central Time, followed by the women's 6K at 10:30 a.m. Central Time on Saturday, Oct. 10.
