Mulder Awarded Program's First GNAC Player of the Year

| By:
PORTLAND, Ore. - The GNAC announced the all-conference honors for men's golf on Wednesday afternoon, with Northwest Nazarene earning two selections including Benjamin Mulder as the Player of the Year.

Mulder was also tabbed as First Team All-GNAC, while teammate Kasey Gaff earned Second Team All-GNAC honors.

Mulder, a sophomore from Spokane, Washington, is Northwest Nazarene men's golf's first-ever GNAC Player of the Year. He is the second for the golf program as a whole, with Elle McCord receiving the women's Player of the Year honors in 2022-23. He is also the 17th NNU athlete to earn GNAC Player or Athlete of the Year honors since joining the conference prior to the 2001-02 year.

Mulder has been red-hot on the course all season, registering a 71.2 scoring average through 28 rounds to lead all GNAC golfers with 15 or more rounds this season. The average is a full two strokes below the current NNU program record for a single season, 73.2, which was set by Grayson Giboney last year.

According to the Clippd rankings, Mulder is the ninth-ranked men's golfer in the West Region entering the regional. He is playing a stroke under par for the season, including 19 rounds of par or below, and has claimed seven top ten finishes, five top five finishes, and three event victories, including the recent GNAC Championships in Coeur d'Alene that he won by six strokes. He was the only golfer to shoot under par at the championships as he claimed NNU's first-ever individual medalist honors at the GNAC Championships. His season is not yet done, as he has qualified for the NCAA West/South Central Regional that is set to be held May 8-10 at the Victoria Club in Riverside, California.

If it wasn't for Mulder, Gaff would have broken the school record for scoring average himself this year, completing his season at 73.1 strokes per round. The mark is tied for seventh in the GNAC and tied for fifth among players with 15 or more rounds this year. He had a pair of top-10 finishes in 11 events and tallied 12 rounds of par or below this season. The sophomore from Stockton, California closed out his season by tying for ninth at the GNAC Championships.
