COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho – After establishing himself as potentially the best men's golfer in the conference during the season, Northwest Nazarene's
Benjamin Mulder left no doubt at the GNAC Championships.
Across the two-day, three round event on April 21 and 22, Mulder shot three consecutive rounds of two-under 69s, finishing at a six-under 207 for the tournament. He was the only golfer to shoot under par for the event, and finished six strokes ahead of any other competitor.
Mulder also made NNU history as the first golfer, men's or women's, to win an individual GNAC Championships title. Current assistant coach
Grayson Giboney held the previous high mark for an NNU men's player, placing second just one season ago.
The sophomore was hot out of the gate, registering five birdies in the first round along with three bogeys for his two-under. He then played round two bogey-free, grabbing a pair of birdies to hit two-under again. He finished with just one bogey in the final round, picking up three birdies to bring his tournament total to 10 birdies and just four bogeys.
Mulder was the best in the field at both par threes and par fours, playing threes at +1 for the weekend and fours at three-under. He was also tied for fifth on par fives at four-under.
As a team, the Nighthawks finished third at 880 (+28). Simon Fraser took the team title at +7, followed by Western Washington at +17. Saint Martin's finished fourth and Montana State Billings fifth.
