NNU's Season Comes to Close against MSUB

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball's 2025 season came to a close on Saturday against Montana State Billings, falling to the Yellowjackets by scores of 3-0 and 2-0.

The losses denied the Nighthawks a GNAC Championships berth, missing the tournament for the first time since the 2017 season.

The Nighthawks end the year at 23-23 overall and 11-13 in GNAC play, finishing in fifth place in the conference, one game behind the Yellowjackets.

Between games of Saturday's doubleheader, NNU honored the softball program's six seniors: Kellcie Adams, Charlotte Forniss, Emilie Hernandez, Mari Kamemoto, Clarissa Moreno, and Emma Mulligan.

Game One: MSUB 3, NNU 0

Miah Lusk started the opener for the Nighthawks and was brilliant, keeping a no-hitter going into the seventh inning before allowing a one-out double.

However, NNU was not able to score over the first seven frames, and the game went to extras tied at 0-0.

The eighth inning went the way of MSUB, as they were able to put together three runs on four hits and a walk. Charlotte Forniss got on base in the bottom of the inning with a two-out single, but that was where the threat ended.

Game Two: MSUB 2, NNU 0

NNU and MSUB pitching was once again dominant in the final game of the series, putting up zeroes in all but one half inning.

The only runs of the game came on one swing in the top of the fourth, when the Yellowjackets' Jazlyn Kalehuawehe hit a two-run homer to center field.

The Nighthawks came close to mounting a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Emma Bumatay singled and Keana Bell doubled to put runners on second and third. Jami Obringer walked with two outs to load the bases, but the MSUB pitcher was able to end the game with a strikeout.
