SEASIDE, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball couldn't get anything going at the plate in the series finale at Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday, falling to the Otters 3-1.
The Nighthawks move to 17-15 overall on the year after going 1-2 in Seaside.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three innings of today's game. The Otters broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, however, taking a 2-0 lead.
NNU did not register their first hit until the top of the fifth inning, when
Jami Obringer and
Kellcie Adams notched back-to-back two-out singles, but both runners were left stranded.
The Nighthawks had some success with a two-out rally in the sixth, as
Clarissa Moreno doubled and came in to score on an RBI single from
Emma Bumatay. That was all NNU would manage in the frame, though, and Monterey Bay then scored a run in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead back up to two runs.
NNU got a runner on with one out in the seventh but could not muster a comeback as they fell 3-1.
Charlotte Forniss started in the circle for NNU and went two scoreless innings while allowing four hits.
Miah Lusk pitched 3.1 innings, followed by
Victoria Frias for the final two outs. Obringer had two of the Nighthawks' five hits in the game.
