Herbert & Kemble Break Records at Oregon Preview

| By:
EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Nazarene took on the competition at the historic Hayward Field at the University of Oregon across Friday and Saturday, coming away with multiple great performances including a pair of program records.

The first new NNU record came on Friday in the men's 5000m, as Brody Kemble surpassed his own previous record in the event by five seconds with a time of 14:17.46. Kemble bested all opponents in the race, winning by less than a second over a runner from the University of Portland. His time is also an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

The Nighthawks had multiple other great results in the 5K with four other runners registering top 10 marks in program history. Grady Mylander wasn't too far behind Kemble, running a 14:20.25 that is second all-time at NNU. Ian Stockett was only a few seconds behind him, checking in at fourth in NNU history with his time of 14:23.21.

Carter Stedman entered the 5K list at sixth with his time of 14:41.94 and Asher Ingram grabbed the 10th and final spot on the list with his mark of 14:50.97.

Laurenz Waldbauer joined Kemble as an event winner in Eugene, overpowering all competitors with a throw of 68.93 meters. His mark cleared the NCAA provisional qualifying standard by 10 meters and should be enough to get into outdoor nationals.

Saturday saw another NNU record shattered, as Destany Herbert bested her previous program record by half a meter with a toss of 14.87 meters. The mark improves her standing on the all-time GNAC top ten list from ninth to fifth.

She also cleared the NCAA provisional qualifying standard by very nearly a full meter and should have a great shot at qualifying for outdoor nationals in May. Excluding any other performances from this weekend, her mark is the second-best in Division II this season.

NNU also had another program top 10 mark attained on Friday, as Emily Powers improved her standing on the javelin list to third with a throw of 43.30 meters.

The Nighthawks will take next Saturday off before their next event on April 4, heading up to Spokane for the Whitworth Peace Meet.
