NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene track & field hosted their first meet of the 2024-25 season on Saturday, welcoming three other schools to town for the Nighthawks Opener.
Despite cold and wet conditions, the Nighthawks had a great day on the track and in the field with one school record broken, a few program top ten marks, and numerous other PRs.
Luke Johansson was the one to make history with a new school record, running a 14.83 in the 110m hurdles that edged out the former record of 14.86 by just three hundredths of a second.
Another top ten mark was achieved in the 400m, where
Dylan Breuer ran a 48.83 that is fifth in program history. The third top ten mark came on the women's side, as
Keelin Stewart bettered her standing on the list with a time of 12:13.33 that is eighth all-time at NNU.
NNU had 11 individuals or relays win their events on Saturday, including
Quincy Ellis in the men's 800m,
Aaron Heberlein in the men's 5000m,
Ella Bartlett in the women's 5000m, Johansson in the men's 110m hurdles,
Destany Herbert in both the women's hammer and shot put,
Emma Kwok in the women's discus,
Gerohm Rihari in the men's long jump,
Ian Stockett in the men's 1500m,
Emily Powers in the women's javelin, and the men's 4x400m relay squad of
Trevor Ames,
Christian Kindler,
Quincy Ellis, and
Dylan Breuer.
The Nighthawks will now look towards the prestigious Oregon Preview meet next weekend, held at iconic Hayward Field in Eugene on March 21 and 22.
