Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Nighthawks Suffer Late Loss to Vikings

NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene Women's Basketball faced a tough match up against the Western Washington Vikings on Saturday the 8th. Trailing for most of the game the NNU team was unable to shift the momentum in their favor and lost, 67-64.

NNU now sits at 8-5 in GNAC play and 14-8 overall.

The Nighthawk's offense started slow, only shooting 3 for 13 from the field goal position compared to the 7 for 12 shot by the Vikings. However, going 75 percent from the free throw line the Nighthawks were able to keep the WWU team within their sights.

A three pointer from Kate Clark cut the Vikings lead to 4 with six minutes remaining in the second quarter. The teams traded baskets throughout the time remaining, leaving the Vikings ahead but the Nighthawks only trailing by 7.

The Nighthawks worked quickly as the third quarter got underway with a jumper in the paint by Kendall Clark, two free throws, and a three pointer from Madeline Gebers. With this the score was tied at 31-31. The game then took a turn as both teams struggled with fouls. The Vikings were able to take back the lead but the Nighthawks stayed hot on their tail. The teams went into the final quarter with the Vikings leading by 9.

The fourth quarter proved to be a rough battle for both teams as a combined total of 30 free throws were shot. With both teams struggling to find momentum they faced a slow fourth quarter. With a minute left to play Kate Clark sunk a three getting the Nighthawks within 1 of the Vikings. However, unable to keep the Vikings from the line, the Nighthawks couldn't take control. The game ended with the WWU team on top, 67-64.
