Nighthawks Struggle In Match Up at Seattle Pacific

SEATTLE – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball faced a tough road matchup on Thursday as they faced off against Seattle Pacific. Despite the efforts from the Nighthawks the Falcons took the victory, 93-70.

NNU now sits at 8-6 in GNAC play and 14-9 overall.

As the teams took the court, the game started at a slow pace. SPU gained control early, but a three-pointer from Beaux Bruegman brought the Nighthawks within two points with just over four minutes remaining. The teams battled back and forth for the rest of the quarter until SPU's Layne Kearns drained a three-pointer, closing the period with her team ahead 33-21.

Hunter Beirne opened the second quarter strong for the Falcons, sinking a three-pointer just 20 seconds into play. SPU then tightened up defensively, holding the Nighthawks scoreless until the six-minute mark. Despite a three-pointer from Madeline Gebers, the Falcons had already built a commanding 23-point lead. They maintained their momentum, heading into halftime with a 59-32 advantage.

The Nighthawks came out determined in the second half, outscoring SPU 21-15 in the third quarter. They shot 9-for-18 from the field and dominated the boards, outrebounding the Falcons 15-8. However, the first-half deficit proved too large to overcome, and SPU kept a comfortable lead at 74-53.

In the final quarter, the Nighthawks made a last push with key three-pointers from Madeline Gebers, Chloe Deharo, and Beaux Bruegman. However, SPU responded efficiently, shooting an impressive 70% from the floor to secure a 93-70 victory.

Stat Leaders:
  • Madeline Gebers contributed 17 points, 2 blocks, and 3 rebounds
  • Loy Waid contributed 12 points, 1 steal, and 3 rebounds
