LA MIRADA, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball split a doubleheader with Biola on Monday, taking game one 4-1 before falling 3-0 in game two.
The 18
th-ranked Nighthawks move to 4-2 on the year.
Game One – NNU 4, Biola 1
The Nighthawks struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, as
Charlotte Forniss brought home
Ava Clark with a two-out RBI single. Forniss came through again in the third, singling home Clark again to put the Nighthawks up 2-0.
Biola managed a run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly, but
Clarissa Moreno erased that with one swing in the fifth as she drilled a solo homer to straightaway center field. Moreno also drove in NNU's final run of the game in the seventh, notching an RBI double that brought home Clark all the way from first.
Riley McGee started for NNU and went 2.1 innings, allowing a run on three hits. Reigning GNAC Pitcher of the Week
Miah Lusk was impressive again, tossing 4.2 shutout frames to earn the save while allowing just one hit and striking out four.
Game Two – Biola 3, NNU 0
Despite eight hits, the Nighthawks couldn't push a run across as the Eagles earned the shutout.
Biola got on the board with two runs in the third and added one more in the fifth to go up 3-0. NNU's best chance may have come in the third when they had runners on second and third with one out. An infield pop-out and a flyout to right ended the threat.
The Nighthawks also had two on with two outs in the seventh but were unable to bring any runners across the plate.
