Men's DMR Gold Highlights Nighthawks Efforts at GNAC Indoors

| By:
SPOKANE, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene track & field capped off a great two days at the GNAC Indoor Championships on Tuesday, with the men finishing fourth out of the nine teams and the women placing seventh.

In total during the two-day event, the Nighthawks captured nine podium finishes, with one title, five runner-up finishes, and three third-place finishes.

NNU made history in the men's distance medley relay on day one Monday, picking up its first-ever GNAC title in the event. The Nighthawks clocked a school-record time of 10:01.63, holding off second-place Simon Fraser by just over two seconds. The quartet of Grady Mylander, Anderson Kron, Carter Stedman and Ian Stockett combined to pick up the historic gold medal for the Nighthawks.

NNU also had a trio of silver medals on day one, with two of them coming in the 5K races. On the men's side, Brody Kemble captured the runner-up finish with a time of 14:44.19. Morgan Erler did the same on the women's side, finishing with a time of 17:38.76 that bested her PR and second-best mark in program history.

The other silver medal was registered by senior Gerohm Rihari in a high jump competition that came down to a tiebreaker. After each clearing 2.01 meters, Rihari and Central Washington's Cal'von Baker missed on all three attempts on the next progression at 2.04 meters. That set up the tiebreaker at 6-7.5 feet (2.02 meters), which Baker was able to clear on his first attempt.

Teammate Jonah Groce also podiumed in the high jump, finishing third with a clearance of 1.92 meters.

Day two saw more success in the distance events, highlighted by silver medal and new program record from Brody Kemble in the 3000m. His time of 8:17.68 is nearly five seconds faster than his previous record time in the event.

Grady Mylander also broke Kemble's old record in the 3K, finishing less than a second back in 8:18.57 that earned him the bronze medal at GNACs.

Morgan Erler notched another medal as well, finishing third in the women's 3000m with a time of 10:10.54.

NNU's final podium finish came in the men's mile, with Ian Stockett placing second with a time of 4:12.29. The mark is also second in program history, just .29 seconds off the record.

The Nighthawks will now set their sights on the 2025 outdoor season, starting with the Linfield Icebreaker from Feb. 28 to March 1.
