Nighthawks Drop Final Two Games at Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif. – Northwest Nazarene softball came up short in a pair of games to close out their games at the Tournament of Champions, falling to San Francisco State 4-2 and Chico State 2-0.

The Nighthawks drop to 6-7 on the year after a 1-3 tournament in Turlock.

Game One – SFSU 4, NNU 2

NNU got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, with Charlotte Forniss bringing home Ava Clark on a sacrifice fly. The Nighthawks added to their lead in the fourth when Kellcie Adams delivered an RBI single to make it 2-0.

NNU starter Riley McGee was dominant through four innings, allowing just one hit. San Francisco State came alive in the fifth, however, tying the game with two runs. The Gators then added two more in the seventh on a pair of two-out RBI singles to take the lead.

The Nighthawks had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout and flyout to right ended the game.

McGee's final line was 4.1 innings with one run and two hits allowed. Jami Obringer had a 3-3 game with a run scored, while Adams notched a pair of hits.

Game Two – Chico State 3, NNU 0

NNU's bats were shut down by Chico State's Amelie Valdez in the Nighthawks' final game at the tournament, as NNU managed just three hits in the shutout loss.

The Wildcats scored one run in the third and two in the fifth to take the victory, notching nine hits along the way.
