Volleyball Fights Hard Against Alaska Anchorage

NAMPA, Idaho – The Nighthawks hosted Alaska Anchorage on Thursday the 13th in the Johnson Sports Center. In a four set match the Seawolves walked away with the, 3-1, victory with set scores of 25-16, 28-26, 22-25, and 25-20.   

The Seawolves came out strong in the first set building up a quick 7-3 lead. Back to Back kills by Abby Black and Maddy Hellem kicked started the Nighthawks offense as they looked to get back into the game. The UAA team was able to hold on to their lead despite the Nighthawks cutting it to 3, off of a kill by Madi Smith. The set ended in the Seawolves favor, 25-16. 


The Nighthawks put down 3 quick kills as set two got under way to give the Nighthawks some momentum. The Seawolves were able to quickly respond and tied the set up on a service ace at 4-4. After overtaking the lead the Seawolves held the momentum of the set until the very end when the Nighthawks made one final push. Hellem put down three timely kills for her team tying the score at 24-24 sending the set into extra points. Despite the back and forth play the Seawolves put down 2 back to back kills to end the set, 28-26. 


The energy shifted in the gym as set 3 got underway and the Nighthawks looked to avoid the sweep. Continuing her consistent night Black put down another kill as the Nighthawks built up their first substantial lead of the night, 8-4. The UAA team managed to work their way back and tie the set at 15-15. Despite this the Nighthawks kept their heads down and pulled through with the 25-22 win. 


The Seawolves put it away in the fourth and final set of the game once again finding their offensive groove. The UAA team recorded 17 kills to the Nighthawks 12. This combined with the Seawolves .286 hitting percentage the team was able to walk away with the 25-20 win. 


Abby Black led her team with 22 kills followed by Maddy Hellem who recorded 13.


The Nighthawks will host their final home game of the season on Saturday the 15th in the Johnson Sports Center at 7 pm. The NNU team will compete against the Alaska Fairbank Nanooks. The Nighthawks will also take time prior to the start of the match up to honor their two seniors McKaylee Becker and Madi Smith
