SEATTLE – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer came up short on the road at No. 17 Seattle Pacific on Saturday night, falling to the Falcons 4-1.
The GNAC-opening defeat drops the Nighthawks to 3-3-2 overall on the year.
The final score was not indicative of the run of play, as NNU edged SPU 13-12 in total shots and the two teams were tied with six shots on goal apiece. The Nighthawks and Falcons also both earned four corners and registered 14 fouls each.
SPU would find the back of the net multiple times, though, starting with a goal in the 10
th minute. Another tally in the 38
th minute gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead at the break.
The advantage grew to 3-0 at the 60-minute mark. NNU was able to get one back six minutes later, when
Derek Remen found
Rylan McPherson for McPherson's GNAC-leading ninth goal of the season.
SPU quickly pushed the lead back to three, however, with a score in the 72
nd minute to bring it to 4-1, which held the rest of the game.
The Nighthawks continue conference play with a pair of home games next week, hosting Western Washington on Thursday and Simon Fraser on Saturday.
