NNU Comes Alive in Second Half to Top Yotes

| By:
NAMPA, Idaho - The NNU Women's Basketball team competed in their first home game of the season against College of Idaho. The exhibition game was on Friday the 24th at 7 pm. In a fun night of basketball the Nighthawks soared their way to victory defeating the Coyotes 70-64.

Coming out strong in the first quarter, the Coyotes built a quick 10–5 lead by capitalizing on intense defense and consistency in the paint. The Nighthawks battled back, closing the gap to one after Jene Wells sank a smooth mid-range jumper. However, the C of I squad didn't let up, hitting a few key threes to stretch their lead once more. The quarter ended with the Coyotes on top, 20–14.

Feeling the pressure, the Nighthawks rallied early in the second quarter to cut the score to 22–20 thanks to a three-pointer from Trinidie Nichols. The Coyotes remained determined, rebuilding their lead before halftime. As the clock wound down, Nichols and Beaux Bruegman each knocked down a three-pointer, bringing the Nighthawks within reach at 38–31 heading into the break.

The second half was when NNU truly found its rhythm and shifted the momentum. Claire Fischer opened with a three to trim the Coyotes' lead to four, and another long-range shot from Bruegman midway through the quarter tied the game—giving the Nighthawks their first chance to take control. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way, with no lead greater than four points. Fired up, NNU ended the third quarter up by two.

The final quarter brought all the excitement the Nighthawks fans could ask for. With three minutes remaining, the game was tied at 64–64. Both teams fought hard, but neither could break the stalemate—until Sadi Clemons drove to the hoop for a clutch layup to put NNU ahead by two. From there, the Nighthawks sealed the win at the free-throw line, closing out the game 70–64.

Trinidie Nichols led the Nighthawks with 21 points followed by Jene Wells who recorded 10.

The Nighthawks will travel to Montana to compete against Montana State in their last exhibition game before their regular season play begins. The tip off is scheduled for October 27th at 7 pm in the Worthington Arena.
