NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene men's soccer went down two goals in the first half against Lubbock Christian on Saturday and could not complete a comeback, falling to the Chaps 2-1.
Lubbock Christian got both of their goals early, scoring in the ninth minute and adding another in the 20
th minute. The Chaps outshot the Nighthawks 10-5 in the opening half.
Like they did on Thursday against West Texas A&M, NNU came out strong to start the second half and scored less than three minutes in.
The Nighthawks earned a corner on the near side of the field and
Jonathan Cardona sent a dangerous ball into the box that found the head of
Ousman Garba, who knocked it into the back of the net to cut the deficit to one.
Despite multiple chances for both teams over the final 42 minutes, that 2-1 score would stand.
Both teams earned penalties in the match, but LCU keeper Connor Pettigrew and NNU keeper
Gerardo Fonte both stood tall and made impressive saves on the tries.
The Nighthawks will now have a week off before they open GNAC play on Saturday, Oct. 5 when they host Saint Martin's at 1:00 p.m. on NNU Field.
