CALDWELL, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene volleyball made the short trip over to Caldwell for their first exhibition match of the 2024 preseason on Saturday, falling to College of Idaho in four sets.
As the game was an exhibition, it will not count towards season records or statistics.
C of I started the cross-county rivalry strong in the first set, pulling away with a 6-0 run midway through the frame that made it 17-12. The Yotes rode that momentum to a first-set victory of 25-17.
In set two, NNU countered with the first two points off a kill from
Gabi Moore and an ace from
Kayci Spray. The teams battled back and forth before a 4-0 Nighthawks run put NNU up 13-9. C of I fought back to tie the set at 22 apiece, but the Nighthawks were able to pull out a 25-22 win to even the set score at 1-1.
The Yotes came away with a close victory in set three, 25-22, however, and used that momentum to take set four 25-14 and win the match.
Abby Black led the Nighthawks with 12 kills and hit .440 while adding four blocks.
Miya Koch and
Maren Machado had 11 kills apiece.
Koch led the team with 15 digs, while Moore had 14 and Spray added 13. Moore also had 39 assists from the setter position.
The Nighthawks will next take on Eastern Oregon in another exhibition match, this time at home on Friday, August 30
th at 6:00 p.m.
