NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball walked-off Saint Martin's in the bottom of the seventh inning to win their first game of the NCAA West Regional, 3-2.
The Nighthawks are now 40-10 on the season.
Emma Bumatay led off the bottom of the second inning with a home run on the first pitch she saw to make the score 1-0. She came up again in the bottom of the third inning and hit an RBI single to score
Olivia Bailey from second.
The Saints scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning on two hits and two errors while leaving two runners on base.
With the score tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh,
Ava Clark hit a double to lead off the inning.
Emma Mulligan moved her over to third with a sacrifice bunt.
Clarissa Moreno reached base on a fielder's choice and stole second base.
Sidney Booth ended the game with a line drive into right field that scored Clark, giving NNU the 3-2 win.
Sidney Booth pitched 6.1 innings without giving up an earned run and struck out four batters while also going 3-4 at the plate.
This was the 40
th win for the Nighthawks and marks a new program record, passing the previous mark of 39 set last season.
