BILLINGS, Mont. – Northwest Nazarene softball completed the sweep of Montana State Billings with wins of 8-5 and 6-0 on Friday.
The Nighthawks are now 30-7 overall and 13-3 in the GNAC.
Game 1
The Yellowjackets made some noise in the bottom of the first inning, jumping out to their first lead of the weekend with a two-run home run. The score held at 2-0 until the top of the fourth inning when
Sidney Booth hit a solo home run to put the Nighthawks on the board.
Keana Bell put the Nighthawks on top with a two-run home run that scored
Emalee Romero in the top of the fifth inning. Later in the inning,
Emma Mulligan came to the plate and extended NNU's lead to 5-2 when she hit a two-run home run of her own.
Bell launched her fourth home run of the weekend in the top of the sixth inning, scoring
Abigail Gagnon and
Lynsey Chiala to put NNU up 8-2. MSUB answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning with three runs on three hits. Both teams were held scoreless in the seventh inning, bringing the final to 8-5.
Sidney Booth received the win after pitching five innings and striking out six batters. Booth now has an 18-4 win-loss record on the season.
Mia Traylor pitched the final two innings, striking out three batters.
Game 2
In the top of the first inning,
Sidney Booth reached base on a fielder's choice and
Abigail Gagnon reached on an error. Booth scored on an RBI single by
Emma Bumatay. Gagnon then scored on an RBI double by
Keana Bell to put NNU up 2-0.
The score remained 2-0 until the top of the seventh inning when NNU brought eight runners to the plate and scored four runs on four hits to go up 6-0. The four hits came on doubles by
Kellcie Adams and
Ava Clark, as well as singles by
Emma Mulligan and
Sidney Booth.
Skinner earned the win after pitching a one-hit shutout. This was Skinner's eighth complete game and third shutout in her nine starts on the year. She is now 9-1 with an ERA of 1.19 and a WHIP of 0.90.

The Nighthawks next series is on the road in Lacey, Washington against the Saint Martin's Saints. The first game of the series is currently scheduled for Friday, April 12
