LACEY, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene softball won two games against Saint Martin's on Friday, taking game one 4-1, and game two 5-3.
The Nighthawks are now 32-7 overall and 15-3 in the GNAC.
Game 1
NNU scored their runs in the third fourth and fifth innings of the game.
Jami Obringer was the first player to cross the plate this weekend, scoring on a sac fly from
Clarissa Moreno. In the fourth inning, Obringer was the one getting an RBI. She beat out an infield single that scored
Emma Bumatay.
Moreno led off the fifth inning with a home run to give the Nighthawks a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Abigail Gagnon reached base when she was hit by a pitch for the seventh time this season. Gagnon came around to score NNU's fourth run of the game when
Emilie Hernandez hit an RBI single to right center.
Sidney Booth threw a complete game for the Nighthawks and shutout the Saints for 6.2 innings before they scored their first run of the game.
Game 2
In the later game of the day, it was the Saints jumping out to an early lead. SMU scored three runs in the first two innings. The Nighthawks got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI single from
Emma Bumatay that scored
Olivia Bailey.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Emma Mulligan cut the Saints' lead to one run with a solo home run down the left field line. In the top of the sixth inning, Gagnon bunted and reached base on an error that scored
Sidney Booth from first base.
Lynsey Chiala pinch ran for Gagnon. Chiala and
Kaylee Duncan scored on an RBI single by Obringer that brought the score to 5-3.
Gina Skinner pitched 6.1 innings and received her 11
th win of the season.
Sidney Booth pitched the final two outs and earned her first save of the year.
