BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene softball split with Western Washington again on Saturday. WWU took game one 3-2 and the Nighthawks bounced back with a 2-0 win in game two.
The Nighthawks are now 18-4 overall and 6-2 in the GNAC.
Game 1
Western Washington opened the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead.
The Nighthawks responded with two runs of their own in the top of the second inning. With bases loaded,
Ava Clark singled down the left field line to score
Emma Bumatay for NNU's first run of the game. The next batter,
Emma Mulligan, hit a sac fly to left field to score
Mari Kamemoto and tie the game at 2-2.
The final run of the game was a home run by WWU's clean-up hitter in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Nighthawks were held hitless for the final three innings and the Vikings took game one 3-2.
Sidney Booth pitched six innings for the Nighthawks and allowed three runs on just four hits while striking out seven batters. Booth is now 12-2 on the season.
Game 2
The Nighthawks were the only team to score in game two because
Gina Skinner shutout the #15 nationally ranked Western Washington Vikings for a second straight game.
NNU's first run came in the fourth inning when
Abigail Gagnon collected her 16
th RBI of the season, scoring
Emma Mulligan on a 5-3 putout. The final run of the game came in the top of the fifth inning with two outs when
Emma Mulligan hit a double to left field, scoring
Olivia Bailey from second base.
Skinner pitched all seven innings for the Nighthawks, allowing just five hits and struck out one batter. This was Skinner's third start and third complete game of the season. She is now 4-1 on the year.
