NAMPA, Idaho – Northwest Nazarene softball fell to the Saint Martin's Saints 10-9 during their afternoon matchup on Friday.
The Nighthawks are now 10-2 on the season.
Saint Martin's began the scoring with a three-run home run in the first inning. The Nighthawks responded immediately in the bottom half of the first inning with three runs of their own.
Emma Mulligan scored on a double from
Clarissa Moreno. Moreno scored on an RBI single from
Emma Bumatay, and Bumatay scored when
Ava Clark Walked with bases loaded.
The Saints put up another three runs in the top of the second inning with a two RBI single and a sacrifice fly. This time, NNU responded with four runs. Again, Moreno brought Mulligan in to score with an RBI.
Sidney Booth was the next batter and reached base with a walk before Bumatay hit a three-run home run to give NNU their first lead at 7-6.
The Nighthawks extended their lead to 8-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Ava Clark had an RBI to score
Keana Bell. SMU score four runs in the top of the sixth inning to regain a lead at 10-8. NNU was able to score one more run in the bottom of the sixth, leading to the 10-9 finish.
Charlotte Forniss started in the circle for the Nighthawks and pitched 1.1 innings.
Gina Skinner pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs, and striking out one batter.
