ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Northwest Nazarene softball completed the sweep over the Wildcats this weekend in Ellensburg, winning games three and four, 3-0 and 6-2, respectively.
The Nighthawks move to 10-1 on the season.
Game 1
NNU's first run of the day came when
Mari Kamemoto had an RBI that scored
Emma Bumatay in the second inning. The Nighthawks extended their lead in the third inning with two runs on four hits.
Emma Mulligan hit a solo home run to go up 2-0.
Clarissa Moreno and
Sidney Booth each reached base on a single and moved up on a wild pitch.
Abigail Gagnon brought Moreno in to score with an RBI single to center field.
Booth pitched all seven scoreless innings. She allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out five batters. Booth also went 2-4 at the plate.
Game 2
With two outs in the top of the first inning,
Sidney Booth and
Abigail Gagnon each reached base with a pair of singles.
Emma Bumatay drove them in with a three-run home run to center field.
The Wildcats were able to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning with the help of three hits and an error. NNU responded with a run in the top of the third when Booth singled to score
Emma Mulligan. A walk, single, and a double would earn the Wildcats their final run of the game in the bottom of the third before
Gina Skinner entered the game to pitch and shut CWU down.
NNU's final two runs came in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single from Gagnon that scored Moreno and an RBI from Bumatay that scored Booth.
Charlotte Forniss started for NNU and got the win after pitching 2.1 innings and allowing two runs, one of them earned.
Gina Skinner pitched 4.2 scoreless innings. She allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out three batters.
Sidney Booth and
Abigail Gagnon each went 3-3 at the plate.
