FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Northwest Nazarene women's basketball took down the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks, 74-69, in their Saturday afternoon matchup.
The Nighthawks are now 9-13 overall and 6-9 in the GNAC.
NNU's offense broke out in a big way to begin the game. The Nighthawks put up 27 points in the first quarter while shooting 8-19 from the field and 5-12 from deep. Eight of the NNU's first quarter points came off turnovers. In the first quarter,
Emma Clark was responsible for nine points and
Madeline Gebers was responsible for eight.
The Nanooks outscored the Nighthawks in every other quarter but could not overcome the 27-12 lead that NNU generated early. As a team, the Nighthawks shot 39.7% from the field, 29.7% from three-point range, and 65% from the free-throw line.
Madeline Gebers led the team in points with 17 after draining five three-pointers and two free-throws. Gebers has now made 56 three-pointers on the year and moves into 10
th place in NNU single season history for three-pointers made.
The women's next game is in Ellensburg against Central Washington on Saturday, February 24
th.
