RENO, Nevada – Northwest Nazarene track and field kicked off their 2024-25 indoor season across Friday and Saturday, taking on a very strong field of DI and DII competition at the Silver State Invitational hosted by the University of Nevada.

The Nighthawks collected seven new program top-10 marks and over a dozen PRs in the debut meet of the year.

Jonah Groce was impressive in the high jump, tying for second at the meet with a clearance of 2.00 meters that moved him up to fourth in NNU history in the event.

The men's distance crew also had a strong showing after their notable cross country season, with Carter Stedman, Grady Mylander, and the Distance Medley Relay squad all hitting program top-10s.

Stedman won the 3000m race at the meet, with his time of 8:42.25 slotting him sixth in program history. Mylander's time of 15:37.25 in the 5000m is ninth all-time at NNU, and the DMR made up of Brody Kemble, Stedman, Mylander, and Ian Stockett ran a 10:29.89 that is also ninth in program history.

On the women's side, a pair of Nighthawks hit top-10 marks in the 60m dash, with Kayla Baniaga moving into fifth in program history with a time of 7.91 seconds and Alejandra Gomez slotting in right behind her at sixth with her mark of 8 seconds flat.

Baniaga also entered the top 10 in the 200m, starting her senior season off incredibly well as her time of 26.16 seconds is tied for ninth in program history.

NNU will take the holiday break off before returning to action on January 17-18 at the Spokane Indoor Challenge, the first of back-to-back meets at The Podium.
