Nighthawks Battle Hard Against Undefeated Central Washington

ELLENSBURG, Washington – The NNU Women's Basketball team started conference play this afternoon as they faced off against Central Washington. As the Nighthawks went head to head with the Wildcats in the Nicholson Pavilion both teams showed up ready to play.

In the first quarter the Nighthawks led against the Wildcats. NNU shot 58.3 percent from the floor compared to the 35.7 percent recorded by CWU. As the quarter ended the Nighthawks were up 18-14. The Wildcats found their momentum in the second as they took control of the game. CWU shot 9-19 from the field goal position and 3-9 from the three point line. With this change of pace the Nighthawks struggled to find a response. As the half ended the Nighthawks went into the locker room down 26-35.

As the second half got underway the Nighthawks worked to get themselves back into the lead. Their hard work was recorded in their stats with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 steals. The Wildcats countered this with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. As the final leg of the competitive game got underway the Nighthawks were down by 6. Despite the Nighthawks efforts the Wildcats were able to pull away in the final quarter of the game. Outscoring NNU by 8 they took the win, 74-60.

Madeline Gebers led her team with an all around steady performance recording 14 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Kendall Clark also had a stellar performance leading her team with 19 points and contributing 12 rebounds.

The Nighthawks will take a break next week before they make the long trip to Salt Lake City. They will be competing against MSU Denver on December 20th at 3:00 pm.
