ELLENSBURG, Washington – The Nighthawks Women's Basketball team played in their second game of the week in Ellensburg against Stanislaus State. In an impressive showing the Nighthawks overpowered the Warriors taking the game, 88-53.
NNU improves to 2-0 after sweeping their opening weekend in Ellensburg.
In the first quarter of the game the Nighthawks played steady basketball to build up an early lead. Showing strength on the defensive side, NNU recorded 6 steals and 14 rebounds. They finished the quarter up, 24-14. As the second quarter got underway the Warriors were unable to stop the growing momentum of the Nighthawks. Shooting 8 for 16 from the floor, NNU finished the half ahead with a score of 49-26.
The Nighthawks started the second half just as strong as they ended the first. Building up their lead by 37 in the third quarter. The stats showed their hard work as they recorded 15 rebounds, 6 steals, and 100 percent from the free throw line. The Warriors looked to turn it around in the fourth quarter and had a stronger performance. This was the only quarter of the game that Stanislaus State recorded more points than NNU. However, despite the efforts from the Warriors the Nighthawks still took the victory, with a score of 88-53.
Kendall Clark led the Nighthawks with 21 points and Chloe Deharo recorded 5 steals. Sadi Clemons and Kendall Clark also contributed 6 rebounds a piece.
NNU will be back on the road as we head into next week. They will travel to Corvallis, Oregon to compete against the Oregon State Beavers. The game is scheduled for Tuesday the 12th at 5:00 p.m. pacific time.
