Nighthawks Defeat Cal State East Bay in Season Opener

ELLENSBURG, Washington – NNU women's basketball officially opened their regular season this morning against Cal State East Bay. In an outstanding performance the Lady Nighthawks pulled out the win with a score of 83 to 69.

Coming out strong in the first quarter the Nighthawks put up 23 points to the Falcon's 19. With the game going back and forth early on it was the hard work put in on rebounds that turned the quarter in favor of the Nighthawks. Coming out in the second the Nighthawks looked just as strong as they began to build up their lead. The Falcons were able to cut the growing deficit with a few late steals and three pointers. Going into the half NNU was up 38 to 33.

As the second half got underway the Falcons looked to turn the game around and tied up the score with around four minutes left. However, with a steady clean performance by the Nighthawks they took back the lead finishing the third with a score of 59-42. In the final quarter of the game NNU found their rhythm and comfortably took the overall win, beating EB by 14.

Madeline Gebers led the Nighthawks with 22 points followed by Kendall Clark who had 15 points and 6 rebounds.

NNU will be back in the Nicholson Pavilion tomorrow as they go head to head with Stanislaus State. Tip off is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. pacific time.
